Tiger’s News
6/1/2016
At the start of the 2015 baseball season it was the Detroit Tigers starting rotation that was showcased as the strength of the team. Only two months into the season it has been the Tigers’ bullpen that has been an unexpected surprise. With Justin Verlander yet to throw a pitch this season and Shane Greene undergoing an MRI on his right elbow this weekend raises questions about inconsistencies in the starting rotation and have begun to concern fans.
To add to the Tigers pitching woes are injuries to designated hitter Victor Martinez (left knee inflammation) and catcher Alex Avila (bone chip left knee) leaving both on the 15-day disabled list.
With the race in the AL Central heating up, Detroit faces the most competition they have had in years. The Kansas City Royals have picked up right where they left off after their trip to the World Series last year; the Minnesota Twins have been a pleasant surprise at 23-17; and the Chicago White Sox are hanging around with a .500 record right now. Even the wild-card spot is no guarantee.
Despite injuries the Tigers remain in 2nd place in the AL Central with a 24-17 record and sit 2 ½ games back from the division leading Kansas City Royals. One thing is certain – the Tigers need the support of their fans. All Star Game voting has opened and will remain open until July 2, 2015 so go to http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/all_star/y2015/ballot.jsp?club=det and vote for your favorite Tiger.
